Best PC Games of 2020

2020 may have been a bit of a bad year for many, but it was a fantastic year for gaming.

2020 saw a record number of people confined to their homes for months due to the pandemic. Despite this, we saw some great games emerging onto the market to keep us all entertained. Join us as we take a look at some of the best PC games of 2020.

Best PC Games of 2020 #1 – CyberPunk 2077

Kicking off our list is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated and controversial release we have seen for many years: CyberPunk 2077. CyberPunk 2077 is a huge open-world RPG. Taking place in Night City, you assume the role of V, a fully customizable character, as he meets interesting and quirky characters and causes chaos throughout the beautiful city.

Although a little buggy upon release, it was consoles that saw the majority of bugs and glitches, with the PC version avoiding many of the glaring issues that the other platforms were plagued by.

CyberPunk 2077 is a great game for those looking for their next big adventure, designed by CD Projekt Red, the team that brought us The Witcher 3, and takes advantage of the latest Nvidia graphics cards and ray-tracing. You can grab CyberPunk 2077 for $59.99 on Steam.

Best PC Games of 2020 #2 – Hades

Brought to you by the developers of Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre, Hades is a deep third-person RPG that is packed full of clever writing, replayability, and depth.

Best PC Games of 2020

The aim of Hades is to escape the underworld and reach Mount Olympus whilst controlling Zagreus, son of Hades. You will be hack-and-slashing your way through randomly-generated groups of enemies on your journey and acquiring treasures, which enable you to unlock new weapons and abilities. Although not as long as some other games, it is addictive and replayable, with some players going through the campaign upward of sixty times. You can pick up Hades for the bargain price of $19.99 on Steam.

Best PC Games of 2020 #3 – Among Us

Among Us has seen a massive boom in popularity recently, with YouTubers and Twitch streamers raking in thousands of views. If you have somehow not already heard of Among Us, let us break it down for you real quick.

Best PC Games of 2020

Players will be given a choice of lobbies to join at the start of a game and can choose between different stages and different numbers of killers, or ‘Imposters’. When the game begins, one or two impostors will be selected at random from the group of players and will be tasked with killing the other players while remaining undetected. The other players have to finish small tasks around the level before they are all killed off. If a body is found, or an emergency meeting is called, players have the chance to vote off a player that they suspect to be the impostor.

The fun is in the simplicity of this game, with impostors trying to frame others by lying in the text chat, and watching the other players vote off innocent people. It is an addictive game of trust, bravery, and teamwork. Among Us is currently $3.99 on Steam.

Best Games of 2020 #4 – Valorant

Valorant was brought to us by League of Legends developer Riot Games. It is a 5 v 5 free-to-play first person shooter that launched this year to a great response from users. As with many free-to-play games, there are plenty of microtransactions on offer, from costumes to weapon skins, if you like to have a more personalized look whilst mowing down your foes.

With both competitive and unranked modes, there is something for everyone here (and thankfully none that hidden SBMM we’ve seen in recent COD games). As stated before, Valorant is completely free to play, but is only available through Riot Games’ dedicated launcher, here.

Best Games of 2020 #5 – Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons is the Star Wars game that many of us have been waiting for for a number of years. The campaign sees players alternate between two opposing forces, the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron, and the Galactic Empire’s Titan Squadron.

Best PC Games of 2020

This is a first-person Star Wars game that focuses solely on the many space ships in the Star Wars universe as you take on enemies head-on either solo, in the campaign, or in online multiplayer.

Despite a few bugs and a weaker campaign storyline, Star Wars: Squadrons is a game that any fan should be checking out without hesitation. You can find Star Wars: Squadrons on Steam for $23.99 here.

Best Games of 2020 #6 – Amnesia: Rebirth

Who doesn’t like a good horror experience from time to time? Amnesia: Rebirth is the latest installment in the Amnesia series from publisher Frictional Games. Taking place directly after the end of Amnesia: Dark Descent, Rebirth takes players on a harrowing journey through dimly-lit areas riddled with creepy and grotesque monsters just waiting for you to stumble into their path. The previous games also received positive reviews, and are definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already (you don’t have to have played them to play this, but you may pick up on things that would otherwise go over your head).

Best PC Games of 2020

The fact that the entire game is played through a first-person perspective only heightens the feelings of claustrophobia and will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Perhaps not for those that are faint of heart, Amnesia: Rebirth can be picked up right now for $23.99 on Steam.

So there you have it: some of the best PC games of 2020. When compiling this list, we’ve tried to make sure that there will be something for everyone, whether you are a fan of shooters, RPG’s, or something more straight-up spooky. Games that have released in 2020 should be appreciated because of the global pandemic that is sadly affecting us all, with many developers and publishers having to change the way they work to bring us the products we love. Here’s to a better 2021, and some more great games!
